RED reveals new images

So with the first footage coming out from the Canon 7D, RED quietly announced a series of new images. Pictures of the REDVOLT battery pack, the REDMOTE controller, the EVF, display screen, and something called the RED GUNNER were posted by Jim Jannard on the RED forums. However, the most exciting bit of news was the announcement that they would update us on the delivery schedule of the Scarlet and Epic, in October. We're patient....

No NAB for RED

RED is skipping NAB this year due to a minor delay from one of their parts vendors; meaning less working prototypes by April.

Instead, when all is ready they will be holding their own RED day.

8112 will be there!

New Specs Scarlet/Epic

I'll let this speak for itself, but I must say, I'm happy about the ability to record full sensor 1080p on the scarlets, no windowing or line skipping!!

Today, from Jim

yes here at 8112 we follow Red closely.....<3

from Jim:
---------------------------------
It is imperative that we make the final decisions as late in the game as possible for two reasons:

1. We are learning a ton everyday.
2. Technology is advancing so quickly.

We have also learned that we need to keep our program as flexible as possible so upgrades can be done easily. We really do want Scarlet or EPIC to be your last camera purchase. Then, you can upgrade as we make modules better (expect that) and as you need them (not before).

This interaction with the community has been invaluable. While we have to filter out some of the "we want it all and we want it now" posts, the program is better for your suggestions and us learning to listen. The more we know about what we can (and can't) do, the easier it is to listen. In the beginning, we had to ignore a bunch because we had no way to do it. Lots of great ideas, no roadmap to get them done. Things are different now.

I wouldn't be surprised if things continue to change before release. The should. It is to your advantage... and mine. While we are paying overtime like crazy to execute as fast as we can, we have also learned that there is no rush to get it wrong. The announcement a couple of weeks ago was really important to set the tone for a system that interchanges and upgrades everything. Now we have some fairly significant new info to share.

What a fun ride... eh?

Jim

Video interview with Ikonoscope and the A-cam DII

Check it out!

LINK

The uncompressed RAW format is indeed quite titillating to say the least. I like this company's mindset behind why they built this camera the way they did. This is a camera built by and for filmmakers. I JUST WANT TO SEE MORE QUALITY TEST FOOTAGE! the proof is in the pudding.

Interesting things are happenin over at Red. From Red Founder Jim Jannard, "We have changed everything about Scarlet because the market has changed and we have discovered a lot of things in the process. We have a new vision. Wipe you minds of the past announced Scarlet. Forget the design and forget the price. It is all different now. We think you will be surprised. Glad we didn't take any deposits... :-)"

Exciting stuff from the forever unpredictable RED people.

RED mythbusters prove ease of work flow

We are big fans of the RED one camera, and are really looking forward to their new Scarlet and Epic cameras. Well, there has been a lot of discussions as to the workflow and the editing process, especially using a consumer level Intel Mac with Final Cut Pro. Well the guys are RED have shot a piece called "Red Mythbusters" and its an excellent proof of just how easy it is to take the footage from the RED, get it online in an instant, and edit it with a basic Intel Mac setup.
