Another Car Video Premier...The Bentley Mulsanne

It seems like all the top car makers these days are shooting slick promo videos. This is something that excites us a lot, but to tell the truth, we wish we were doing them. Here's the best that Bentley has to offer:

The behind the scenes of the Ferrari 458 shoot

Remember the video we posted last week of the Ferrari 458 Italia? Well, here is the behind the scenes video, showing that they used a RED one, in addition to some smaller cameras, and included pretty simple technique's such as duct taping a camera to the helmet of the driver.

First footage of Canon 7D

Here is a vimeo footage of the Canon 7D, shooting in 24fps in Beijing. We think it looks pretty good, especially at the price point which Canon has said it would come out at.

RED reveals new images

So with the first footage coming out from the Canon 7D, RED quietly announced a series of new images. Pictures of the REDVOLT battery pack, the REDMOTE controller, the EVF, display screen, and something called the RED GUNNER were posted by Jim Jannard on the RED forums. However, the most exciting bit of news was the announcement that they would update us on the delivery schedule of the Scarlet and Epic, in October. We're patient....

Now with video from space

So the other week, we posted about a group of MIT students that were able to snap photos from the edge of space. We dreamed about being able to do the same project, but with a video camera. Well, a group came along and did it. Here is the video. The balloon and camera made it up to 107,145 feet, and the camera landed 89 miles away from the launch site.

Music Videos We like!

Here's a sweet little animated video for Givin' Up by One Eskimo, directed by Lifelong Friendship Society.

Animation is a great medium for music videos and ads alike and expect 8112 to delve into this style in the future.

Slick Video of the Ferrari 458 Italia

We came across this video today, and it is worth the watch. If you're like us here at 8112, then you're into anything with a motor. Cars especially get our blood pumping, and no other car maker does more so then Ferrari. They recently introduced the Ferrari 458 Italia to the world, but this video is our first real look at the car in motion, and captured beautifully. We really should be shooting these though.

The new RED Reel courtesy of RED

So the guys over at RED debuted the newest RED reel (footage taken exclusively with the RED one camera) and it looks nothing short of amazing, but we expected nothing less. It is a large download in quicktime, but its worth it to take a look.

8112 were the only ones to get exclusive video of Justice Sonia Sotomayor dancing the mambo last night

So, we here at 8112 Studios were filming the National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts last night and ended up filming Justice Sonia Sotomayor dancing the mambo with Actor Esai Morales. It was a fun time, especially since we were the only ones filming it. Its already been on Washingtonpost.com, Huffington Post, TMZ.com, and a bunch of other media outlets.

8112 crashes Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in NYC!

So, we got the call last week to go up to New York for Fashion week, sponsored by Mercedes-Benz. Of course, we jumped at the opportunity, as we had never been before and heard it was a fun time.

We would be filming a WLTV pod for one of our favorite clients, Washington Life Magazine.

This Fall would be previewing the Spring 2010 line up, so with our trustworthy Sony EX-1, a backpack, a couple of extra batteries, and a small bogen light, we set off into fashion world.

Overall, it was a great experience, but after going, I don't know if I'd ever want to go as merely a member of the public. Having the media pass made all the difference, as otherwise it would be hours of standing in line, standing at the shows, and more standing to get out.

Check out the video we shot for Washington Life. Keep in mind, that they wanted it to be quick, and essentially with little dialogue (no interviews), making the video more of a weekend montage summing up the best parts.

This is awesome. Taking Photos from Space....for under $150

So this might seem boring to some, but to us, it is just downright cool.

A group of MIT students (who else) were able to successfully launch a camera into the stratosphere, have it snap photos of our blue little planet, and then land safely back on the ground, where they retrieved the footage...all for under $150.

For starters, they used a Canon A470 camera with an 8GB SD card, which they bought used on Amazon. To track the balloon, they bought a prepaid Motorola i290 GPS cell phone to receive location text messages. To keep the entire camera and cell phone from not freezing (as temperatures can get below 60 degrees), they simply put the gadgets in a styrofoam beer cooler, and put a few of those camping instant hand warmers in there.

The entire weight came in at around 2 lbs, and they found the camera about 20 miles away from the launch site, about 5 hours later.

Now, we need to take this to the next step here at 8112, and do this but with video. Too bad we don't have degrees from MIT.

For the full details on how they did it

We really dig the new Halo ODST ad

this ad is so well done it makes me want to see more of the setting and characters. I also like the lack of english dialogue in it which keeps the commercial raw visual emotion.
